Summer in Oxfordshire. And just beyond.

At last, summer has arrived. The sun is shining and the temperature is rising. All very timely for the many events that are taking place throughout the UK over the coming months. Quite a few are taking place fairly close to us which is rather convenient!

Next week, 18 - 26 June, is English Wine Week. Our local winery, Fairmile Vineyard, will be at the English Wine and Food Festival in Hungerford on 25 and 26 June. Also on 25 June is the Henley Summer Fest which is taking place at the Henley Showground. Both Hungerford and Henley are easy journeys from us.

The following weekend, 1 - 3 July, sees the British Grand Prix at the Silverstone race circuit. Towcester is under an hour by car, via the M40 and A43, from The Laurels. But quicker by helicopter.

The Cornbury Festival, the last one to be held, sadly, is happening over the weekend of 8 - 10 July in beautiful Great Tew, a scenic cross-country drive from us via Rousham and the Bartons to north Oxfordshire. This is a really great event not to be missed.

The following two weekends are related to aviation. The dates for the Royal International Air Tattoo are 15 - 17 July (although Park & View happens several days before and a day after) and the Berkshire Balloon Fiesta is on Saturday, 23 July, at Newbury Showground. Fairford Airfield is just under 40 miles from us (go via Cumnor and Lechlade) and the Newbury Showground is a quick 45 minutes journey straight down the A34.
