Places to visit and events to go to this autumn

Despite summer drawing to a close, there is still masses to do, a lot to see and events to go to during the autumn months.

Although autumn is approaching, there are still a few festivals happening in Oxfordshire. The Alvescott Music Festival takes place on 23 and 24 September and both Saturday and Sunday's music line-up is pretty good. Charming Alvescott is on the edge of the Cotswolds between the delightful villages of Bampton and Burford. The Great Barn Festival is being held in Great Coxwell near Faringdon, also over the weekend of 23 and 24 September, an enchanting event of music, art, theatre and nature.

Autumn is a great time to celebrate food so why not visit the Didcot Food Festival over the weekend of 7 and 8 October. Or pick your own pumpkins at various locations throughout Oxfordshire. Rectory Farm in Stanton-St-John has its own pumpkin patch and pumpkins can either be picked or bought from the farm shop throughout October. Waterperry Gardens are holding an orchard open day on Sunday, 8 October, and Brightwell-cum-Sotwell Orchards are open on Saturday, 14 October. Brightwell's orchards produce over one hundred traditional varieties of apple, a pretty impressive statistic.

Towards the end of October, there are various spooky happenings throughout the county. Blenheim Palace will try and scare us between 20 and 29 October as will Stonor Park between 18 and 29 October. The beguiling Evenley Wood Garden's spooktacular is taking place between 21 and 31 October. This event will be seriously good fun as they suggest going in fancy dress! Oxford's Castle and Prison's Ghost Fest will frighten us between 21 and 31 October plus potions can also be made in the ghostly crypt.

Firework displays are not far away either and the Oxford Round Table Charity is holding their event in South Park on Saturday, 4 November. Abingdon's firework spectacular takes place on Saturday, 11 November, at Abingdon's airfield. If you prefer less noise, there is a Reduced Sound Firework Display in Worminghall on Saturday, 28 October.

There are so many events being held in Oxfordshire between now and Christmas that choosing which one to go to will be difficult. Enjoy each and every venue you visit.
